Regarded a master of watercolours by his fellow artists, Girish Gujar - a BFA graduate from Aurangabad, now a resident of Goa, has been capturing its landscapes in watercolour for over a decade.
“Captured in Colour” highlights Girish’s strengths of blending free flowing colours on paper in a variety of visual scenarios from heavy skies and expressive forms in his seascapes to a perfect sense of perspective in his landscapes. His use of shadow, white space and suggestive strokes provides for depth, openness and detail in all his work.
Girish usually prefers spontaneous paintings by physically being present at the location he wishes to capture on paper. His skill with the brush allows him to rapidly complete an impressionistic version of the landscape when required. Girish has previously had a couple of solo exhibitions of his work and also works full time as an artist creating “azulhejos” paintings on tiles and more. He will be conducting a watercolour painting workshop at Carpe Diem in the next week for artists keen on honing their skills in this medium.
